Funded by the University of W\u00fcrzburg Universit\u00e4tsbund, our first guest will be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.universiteitleiden.nl\/en\/staffmembers\/jacques-van-der-vliet#tab-1\">Jacques van der Vliet<\/a>\u00a0of the University of Leiden, who will be speaking on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aegyptologie.uni-wuerzburg.de\/de\/aktuelles\/single\/news\/gastvortrag-prof-dr-van-der-vliet\/\">28th November 2019<\/a>.\u00a0His topic is the Coptic <em>Apocalypse of Paul<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>The\u00a0<em>Apocalypse of Paul<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0<em>Visio Pauli<\/em>\u00a0(<em>CANT<\/em>\u00a0325) is one of the most fascinating and influential apocryphal texts from Late Antiquity. Translated into practically all languages of the Christian world, it profoundly shaped the medieval imagination of Heaven and Hell, up to and including Dante\u2019s\u00a0<em>Divina Commedia<\/em>. In the study of its textual transmission, the Sahidic Coptic version was generally neglected, due to a disastrous editorial history. Only in 2007, Lautaro Roig Lanzillotta (University of Groningen) was able to demonstrate both the excellent quality and the great interest of the principal Coptic witness. Yet, this very version poses considerable text-critical problems.
