Kopt. 679<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-a5ce9f11-4029-486c-93e5-b4a18fc03801\">We\u2019ve just posted our latest update to the&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coptic-magic.phil.uni-wuerzburg.de\/index.php\/manuscripts-search\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kyprianos Database of Ancient Ritual Texts and Objects<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-a5ce9f11-4029-486c-93e5-b4a18fc03801\">The update includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" id=\"block-a73c905d-10b7-404e-83a6-6dd6bbbbbfa3\"><li>30 new\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coptic-magic.phil.uni-wuerzburg.de\/?sfid=11222&amp;_sfm_all\" target=\"_blank\">manuscript entries<\/a>, bringing the total to 988.<ul><li>These contain primarily Greek and\/or Coptic magical texts from Egypt and other parts of the Roman Empire, but we are also now beginning to include two new categories of manuscript, arising from our collaborations with two outstanding researchers.<\/li><li>The first of these are Aramaic incantation bowls, drawn from the Prosopographic Database of Magical Bowls produced by <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uu.nl\/staff\/OPSaar\" target=\"_blank\">Ortal-Paz Saar<\/a> as part of the project &#8220;Aramaic Magical Texts from Late Antiquity&#8221; (2009-2014) conducted by Dan Levene (University of Southampton) and Gideon Bohak (Tel Aviv University) and sponsored by the Britain\u2013Israel Research and Academic Exchange Partnership (BIRAX).\u00a0 At present, the database only contains <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coptic-magic.phil.uni-wuerzburg.de\/index.php\/manuscript\/kyp-m3735\" target=\"_blank\">a single incantation bowl<\/a>, but we will be gradually adding more in coming months and years.<\/li><li>We are also beginning to add liturgical texts on papyri drawn from the checklist of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hf.uio.no\/ifikk\/english\/people\/aca\/classics\/temporary\/agnesmi\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u00c1gnes Mih\u00e1lyk\u00f3<\/a>. The most recent of these is <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coptic-magic.phil.uni-wuerzburg.de\/index.php\/manuscript\/kyp-m1564\/\" target=\"_blank\">BKT VI 6.2, a hymn on the nativity<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>2 new\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coptic-magic.phil.uni-wuerzburg.de\/?sfid=20347\" target=\"_blank\">text entries<\/a>, bringing the total to 167. The two texts we chose for this update are<ul><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coptic-magic.phil.uni-wuerzburg.de\/index.php\/text\/kyp-t-225\" target=\"_blank\">P. Heid. Inv. Kopt. 679<\/a>, the only surviving Coptic magical text with a clear description of the use of the figurines pierced with nails often called &#8220;voodoo dolls&#8221;.<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coptic-magic.phil.uni-wuerzburg.de\/index.php\/text\/kyp-t-18\/\" target=\"_blank\">P. K\u00f6ln.
