Collection History: | Purchased from Maurice Nahman by Carl Schmidt in Cairo in October 1933. Taken home by Friedrich Bilabel, and kept by his family following his death. Initial efforts to recover it by Karl Preisendanz were unsuccessful. In 1998 & 2008 the manuscript was offered to the University of Heidelberg for sale by Bilabel’s grandson. The legal claims of the University of Heidelberg on the manuscript were judged to be too difficult to enforce, and so the manuscript was bought back by the University (Dosoo/Preininger 2023: 325; Gardner and Johnston 2019: p. 32; Untermann 2011: p. 5). |
