See all texts in this manuscript.

Language(s):

Greek

Script(s):

Coptic (?)

Dialect:
Language/dialect notes:

The text is identified by the editors as Old Coptic, but the grammar and orthography seem to be too far removed from Coptic for this to be correct. The text (in their edition) is closer to the transcribed Traditional Egyptian of BM EA 10808 (KD 18/3/2019).

Date: question mark icon Dates are CE unless preceded by a minus sign <->, in which case they are BCE. 401 – 800
Date notes:

Dates for the use of the cemetery (Kosack and Pauli-Gabi: p. 11, 13). On p. 13 the authors suggest that the text may be several centuries older since it is written in “Old Coptic”, but this may need to be revised when the text is re-edited. Text argued to be dated to 180-200 because it is ‘an earlier stage of the language to Coptic’ (Kosack and Pauli-Gabi 2003: p. 14) – but not language (EL 26/3/2019)
