[1] ⳨ I walked by the door of hell, I found a beauty, [2] white with black eyes, sitting upon a well of stone, [3] a bag (?) beside her, drawing water with a bronze jar, [4] … of iron. I said to her, “O [5] beauty, give me a kiss!” She said to me, “Get away from [6] me! She did not … by the door of Hell. [7] I ran away from her. I suffered, I cried, I groaned. [8] Isis said to me, “Why do you cry, why do you groan?” ⟨I said⟩, “It is not my fault [9] that I cry. I found a beautiful woman whom I wanted to kiss, [10], but she did not return (?) my heart.” She said to me, “Even if you did not find [11] me, if you did not find my name, if you did not find the name of these three [12] angels, Kirie, Kirie, prostrate (?) … [13] … you (pl.) shall bring NN daughter of NN to my, NN, feet, that I might be [14] with her, that I might cast my desire at her, and it … [15] into her womb, ⟨to⟩ (?) the seventy nerves which surround [16] it! Quickly, quickly!

Notes:

1. ⲁⲉⲓ̈ⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ϩⲓ̈ⲣⲉⲛ ⲉⲡⲉⲣⲉ ⲛⲁⲙⲉⲛⲧ̣ⲉ̣ We might expect “I walked through the door of hell here”; this is how it has been translated in all other editions. If the preposition is indeed ϩⲓⲣⲛ̅ rather than ϩⲓⲧⲛ̅, however, this does not seem possible, unless we are dealing with an idiom otherwise unknown to us.
3. ϥ̣ⲉⲥⲉⲕⲓ̈ⲛ Jacques van der Vliet translates “travelling bag”, understanding this to be a writing of the Latin bisaccium. This seems phonologically plausible (compare spellings of σάκκιον in Förster WBGW), but the word is not otherwise attested in either Coptic or Greek (through which most Latin loanwords were transmitted into Coptic). The normal Greek equivalent is δισάκκιον (E.A. Sophocles, “A Glossary of Later and Byzantine Greek”, Memoirs of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences N.S. 7A (1860), p. 260), a term which appears in several documentary papyri from Egypt.
12. ⲕⲓ̈ⲣⲓ̈ⲉ Roxanne Bélanger Sarrazin (private communication 26/3/2020) proposes that the final invocation should be understood as beginning here, supplying (say) before this word. This seems like a promising possibility, since we might expect an invocation to begin here.
14. “Desire” might refer to male genitals, as in P. Heid. Inv. Kopt. 683 ll. 32-33 (KYP T48).
