Acquisition: | All of the manuscripts were purchased by the British Museum in 1907 (List of Oriental Manuscripts p. 301). On the basis of their hand, Walter E. Crum suggested that they may have come from Thebes (Kropp 1931: p. xi). |
Dating: | Crum dated the hand to ca. 600 CE (Kropp 1931: p. xi), a judgement that has been followed in subsequent scholarship. |
Language/dialect: | All the manuscripts are written in Sahidic Coptic. |
Materiality/composition: | Four formularies in the form of papyrus rotuli. |
Content: | A collection of magical recipes. |
