[p. 14 l. 14] O creatures rising [15] with the moon, come to me! [16] Listen to my adjuration [17] which is their great names, [18] Aram, Aram, Arimatha, [19] Aioutha, Athaēl! O great [20] shining cherubim, [21] rising with the sun, [22] come to me, listen [23] to my adjuration, Arakha, [24] Arakha, Arakhaēl! O [25] creatures rising up with [26] the stars of heaven in the [p. 15 l. 1] east, come [2] to me today! Listen [3] to my adjuration, [4] Araēl, Araēl, Aratakhaēl, [5] Ouriēl, Arakhaēl! [6] O creatures rising up [7] with the light, come [8] to me! Listen to my [9] adjuration, Amanaēl, [10] Amaraēl, Nanoēl, [11] …ēl, Ananiēl! O creatures [12] rising up with the sun, [13] come! Listen to my [14] adjuration, Atha, Atha, [15] Athaēl! O creatures [16] rising up with the great star, [17] come to me! Listen [18] to my adjuration, Ēr, [19] Ēr, Ēr, Ēr, Ēr, Ēr, Ēr! O [20] creatures rising up, [21] serving the seven [22] archangels, come [23] to me! Listen to my [24] adjuration, Arimatha, [25] Marinthaēl, Edekiēl! [26] O creatures who come through heaven, [27] being under the authority [p. 16 l. 1] of the Father, listen to my [2] adjuration, Manouēl, [3] Manouēl, Semanouēl, [4] Manouēl, the four gates [5] of the Heavenly Jerusalem! [6] Come to me today!

[7] Listen to my adjuration! [8] I adjure you by the first [9] gate of heaven, that [10] of the north, with all the creatures [11] who stand [12] praising the name of [13] the Lord, the Father of [14] the whole world, Adōnai, [15] Elōei, Elemas, Sabaoth! [16] These are their names: Ēr, Ēr, Ēr, [17] Ēr, Ēr, Ēr, Ēr. O creatures [18] rising in the gate of the south, [19] come to me and to my [20] adjuration, Maroutha, [21] Maroutha, Marouthaēl! [22] O creatures rising up [23] in the gate of the east, [24] come to me today! [25] Listen to my humble word, [26] Aratha, Aratha, [27] Arathaēl, Anatēl, [28] Manouēl, Edekiēl! O [29] creatures rising in the [p. 17 l. 1] gate of the west, [2] come to me! Listen to [3] my humble word, [4] Akhaēl, Aēl, Manouēl, [5] Edekiēl, Sntaēl, [6] Kheroubin, Kherinaēl, [7] Sarinaēl, Arinataēl! O [8] cherubim and seraphim [9] who stand under the [10] face of Christ, come to [11] me today!

Listen to my [12] adjuration, O creatures [13] of the archangels, Michael, [14] Gabriel, Raphael, [15] Uriel, Sedekiēl, [16] Anael, Setēl, Azaēl, [17] those who stand in the presence [18] of the he who dwells in [19] heavens, the seven names [20] worthy of hearing; [21] when any among the angels [22] and all his living creatures [23] name him, [24] the earth trembles, [25] the mountains shake, the [26] waters rejoice on account of the [27] great light of his name: [28] Adonai, Elōei, Miēl, Alpha, [p. 18 l. 1] his great name and his [2] true name!

I adjure you [3] by his great name, [4] every creature which will pronounce [5] this adjuration, so that [6] you will destroy the whole power [7] of the devil, and [8] you will undo every bond [9] and violence that has come about [10] through them! Let my [11] demand be fulfilled!

They will [12] read my adjuration [13] before ⟨the⟩ hour comes, [14] furthermore, after this, I will pluck out [15] the roots of Satan [16] and all the bonds [17] of the Devil, and [18] my prayer will be accomplished through [19] your name, O Lord Sabaoth [20] Elōei, Elōei, [21] Elōei, Iaō, Eiaōh, Eiaō, [22] Sabaoth, Hrabounei, [23] which is interpreted [24] as “teacher”, the one in whom all [25] creatures of the angels and the archangels [27] rejoice, saying: “Holy, holy, [p. 19 l. 1] holy, Lord Sabaoth, [2] the heavens and the earth are full [3] of your glory and your blessing!”

[4] Rejoice, [5] all you creatures, for the Lord [6] rose from the dead [7] on the third [8] day and he freed [9] the entire race of Adam, [10] and he despoiled the Jews, who were [11] ashamed of what they [12] had done, and he met his [13] disciples and gave them the [14] good news, the great Alpha [15] who is strong on account of all these things. [16] I invoke [17] you that you stand [18] with me [19] today and fulfil [20] that which is good [21] in my heart! Let them be ashamed, [22] those who love the [23] Devil and fall down before [24] this prayer, [25] every evil spirit, [26] every unclean spirit, [27] every sorcery, every impiety! [28] Withdraw yourselves, it is Christ Jesus who chases [p. 20 l. 1] you away!

[p. 20 l. 1] O Blood of [2] Christ, guard everyone who [3] carries this prayer! [4] The Holy trinity is [5] with us all, amen.

Notes:

p. 18

11-14. ⲉⲩⲛⲁⲱϣ ⲙ̅ⲡⲁⲉⲝⲟⲣⲅⲓ̅ⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲙⲡⲁⲧⲉⲟⲩⲛⲟⲩ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲁⲓ̅ⲧⲓ̅ ⲙ̅ⲛ̅ⲛ̅ⲥⲱⲥ This passage is difficult to translate, and we suspect there may be some textual corruption – which “hour” is meant here? Cf. perhaps Berlin P. 8327 l. 24 (KYP M119/T338) “before the hour comes that you are distant (?)” (ⲙⲡⲁⲧⲉⲟⲩⲛⲟⲩ ϣ̣ⲱⲡⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲕⲉⲟⲩⲉⲓ̈ⲉⲓ̈).
22-24. ϩ̅ⲣ̅ⲁⲃⲟⲩⲛⲉⲓ̈ ⲡⲉⲧⲉϣⲁⲩⲟⲩⲁϩⲙⲉϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲥⲁϩ cf. John 20.16: “she [Mary Magdalene] said in Hebrew, “Rabbounei”, which is interpreted as ‘teacher’” (ⲡⲉϫⲁⲥ ⲙⲙⲛⲧϩⲉⲃⲣⲁⲓⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲣⲁⲃⲃⲟⲩⲛⲉⲓ ⲡⲉϣⲁⲩⲟⲩⲁϩⲙⲉϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲥⲁϩ).

p. 19

27. Pleyte omits this line in his translation.

Pleyte/Boeser use the sign = to indicate words which continue over multiple lines, but these are found in the codex. Due to the complexity of this text, we do not note minor divergences between our reading and that of Pleyte and Boeser, e.g., letters dotted in only one edition, a supralinear stroke marked in place of diaeresis, etc.; we do however note where letters are restored in one edition but not the other, or where punctuation is noted for a letter in one edition but not the other.
