[recto l. 1] Hail, O sun! Hail, O moon, [2-3] you beside whom the two angels stand, who [4] hold (?) their tablets, they who bear the lamp [7-8] of the sun, they whose names will be spoken over this oil [9] for NN, child of NN, so that she will love NN, child of NN, [10] Abrakh Abrakh Abraēl [11] Abraēl Almathtipou, [12] the true names are in these; they will [13] say to the sun, “Do not rise [14] at dawn”; they will [say] [15] to the moon, “Do not shine [16] ⟨on⟩ NN”, so that she will go [17] to NN, child of NN, for you are Abrakh, [18] you are Abraēl, you [19] are Anaēl, Abinathat [20] the one in whose hand is the key of hell; [21] I adjure you (pl.) [22] by every true name [verso, l. 1] of he who sits upon his throne [2] of his glory so that when [3] this oil touches the flesh of NN, child of NN, [4] ⟨she⟩ will love NN, child of NN, with an [5] indestructible desire, in your true name [6] Abriam Adonai Eloei [7] Athathaēlēl Abaaba [8] Betaei, the Father, Alpha Ō, [9] concerning NN, so that she will come, now, now, [10] [11] quickly, quickly, in your name, [12] Iao Sabaoth!

Notes:

Parallel texts: P. Mich. inv. 602 ll. 10-22 (KYP M18, T2792) and P. Mich. inv. 598 vo ll. 11-26, P. Mich. inv. 597 ro 1-6 (KYP M15, T1)

Recto

8. [ⲛ]ⲇͅⲇͅ The other two copies of this text have ⲛⲓⲇͅⲇͅ (P. Mich. inv. 602 l. 12 (KYP T2792); P. Mich. inv. 598 vo ll. 15-16 (KYP T1)), but here there is no space for a ⲓ. The symbol for ⲇͅⲇͅ is strange, with what appears to be a ⲡ underneath, but it is clear from the context and the other copies that this is what should be read here.
10-11. ⲁⲗⲙⲁⲑⲧⲓⲡⲟⲩ ⲛⲣⲁⲛ Here we understand ⲁⲗⲙⲁⲑⲧⲓⲡⲟⲩ as one magical name, and ⲛⲣⲁⲛ as the beginning of the next statement (“the true names are in these”). The other two versions of this text (P. Mich. inv. 602 ll. 13-14 (KYP M18, T2792) and P. Mich. inv. 598 vo l. 17 (KYP M15, T1)) have dropped the ⲛ, so that we have ⲁⲗⲙⲁⲑⲧⲓ as the name, followed by ⲡⲟⲩⲣⲁⲛ, which should probably be understood as Sahidic ⲡⲉ⸗ⲩ-ⲣⲁⲛ (“their true name”).
13. ⲥⲉⲛⲁϫ . . The other copies have ⲥⲉⲛⲁϫⲟⲟϥ (P. Mich. inv. 602 l. 15 (KYP T2792); P. Mich. inv. 598 vo l. 19 (KYP T1)). Here, there is not enough space at the end of the line for ⲟⲟϥ, and the letters are smudged so what is there cannot be read. The smudge could also be hiding letters that were written above the line (ⲥⲉⲛⲁϫⲟⲟ⧹ϥ⧸ or ⲥⲉⲛⲁϫⲟ⧹ⲟϥ⧸ ?).
14-15. [ⲙⲡ]ⲣ̣ϯ ⲡ̣[ⲉ]ⲕ̣[ⲟ]ⲩ̣[ⲁⲉⲓⲛ ⲇͅⲇͅ ϫⲉ ⲉⲥⲁⲉⲓ] ⲉ̣ⲣ̣[ⲁⲧϥ] This has been reconstructed based on the parallel texts. P. Mich. inv. 602 (KYP T2792) ll. 15-16: ⲙⲡⲣϯ ⲙⲡⲉⲕⲟⲩⲁⲉ︦ⲓ︦ⲛ︦ ⲇͅⲇͅ ϫⲉ ⲉⲥⲁⲉⲓ̅ ⲁ̅ⲣ̅ⲁⲧϥ; P. Mich. inv. 598 (KYP T1) vo ll. 20-21: ⲙⲡⲣϯ ⲙⲡⲉⲕⲟⲩⲁ̅ⲉ̅ⲓ̅ⲛ̅ ⲇͅⲇͅ ϫⲉ ⲉⲥⲁⲉⲓ̣ ⲁ̅ⲣⲁⲧϥ.
16-21. In the photograph (as of 22.07.2026), the fragment in the bottom right corner (recto) is placed too high and should be moved about 1 cm down, so that the traces of ⲡ̣ⲉ̣ ⲁⲃⲣ[ⲁⲭ] at the top, which seem to belong to l. 15, are actually in line 16.
21. [ⲙⲡⲣ]ⲁ̣ⲛ̣ [ⲙⲙⲏⲧ] ⲛ̣ⲓⲙ For the singular article with ⲛⲓⲙ, see Crum CD 225b-226a.

Verso

10. ⲁ There is a gap between ll. 9 and 11, and this ⲁ seems to have been added later, but its purpose is uncertain. It was perhaps meant as a correction, but the alphas of ϩ̣ⲁ above (l. 9) and ⲧⲁⲭⲩ below (l. 11) seem clear, and the added ⲁ is quite far from both words. It could be a pen trial or some paratextual note by the scribe.
