| Notes: | Parallel text: P. Mich. inv. 594 vo l. 14-15 (KYP M15; KYP T932) 9-10. ⲟⲩⲁⲡⲁⲣⲭⲏ ⲛ̅ⲏⲣ̅ⲡ̅ “wine of the first fruits” The first fruits are the first products of the harvest. According to canonical collections, first-fruits offerings (typically of oil, grain, and wine) were to be taken to the church and blessed by the bishop and were used for the production of the communion bread and wine, as well as for the care of the sick; cf. PCM I, p. 476-77. Since the primary referent of ἀπαρχή is wine, when a substance is not specified, we supplement “‹wine of the› first fruits”. For wine of the first fruits in the Coptic magical corpus, see e.g., P.Heid.inv.Kopt. 680 (PCM I 21; KYP M313; KYP T229) front l. 8; P.Heid.inv.Kopt. 683 (PCM I 24; KYP M312; KYP T47) front l. 18; P.Heid.inv.Kopt. 685 (PCM I 25; KYP M186; KYP T243) p. 16 ll. 8, 11; P.Heid.inv.Kopt. 686 (PCM I 26; KYP M166; KYP T1329) p. 17 l. 18; P.Heid.inv.Kopt. 518 (PCM I 32; KYP M285; KYP T1559) p. 1 l. 22. |
