Notes:

Parallel in P. Mich. inv. 602 ll. 34-37 (KYP M18, T7014)

p. 14

2. ⲉ The parallel text in P. Mich. inv. 602 (KYP M18, T7014) l. 34 has a cross marking the beginning of a new. It is unclear why the scribe of this manuscript copied an ⲉ rather than a cross. One possibility would be that the ⲉ belongs to ⲥⲟⲡ, the final word of the previous text (cf. Bélanger Sarrazin 2025: p. 268), and that it would be an example of the Theban tendency to add final -ⲉ (cf. Winlock and Crum 1926: p. 247), although it is not otherwise attested for this word.
3. ⲡ̅ⲓ̅ⲣ̅ⲓ̅ⲡⲉ̅ⲣ Compare GEMF 55/PGM III.514 ⲡⳓⲟⲓ̈ ⲡⲉⲣⲡⲓⲣⲉ ⲡⲛⲟⲩⲛ “Shai who came forth from the primordial waters”. ⲡ̅ⲓⲣⲓ̅ⲡ̅ⲉⲣ̅ could be understood as a distorted form of ⲡⲉⲣⲡⲓⲣⲉ (“the one who came forth”). For the archaic relative ⲉⲣ-, see Crum CD 57b, and Haardt 1963/1964.
6. ⲱ︦ⲓ︦ⲁ̅ⲱ̅ The initial ⲱ︦ is separated by dots in P. Mich. inv. 602 (KYP M18, T7014) l. 36 (· ⲱ · ⲓⲁⲱ). Here there are two separated supralinear strokes, covering ⲱ︦ⲓ︦ and ⲁ̅ⲱ̅, but it seems to be treated as single word.
8. ⲕ̅ⲟ̅ⲩ̅ϣ ⲁⲣ This is likely Hellenia speciosa (formerly Costus speciosus), often referred to as “Arabian costus” (e.g., Dioscorides, Materia Medica 1.16; cf. PCM I, p. 475), and is probably meant to be used as a burnt offering. For this spelling without the final ⲧ of ⲕⲟⲩϣⲧ and the abbreviated form of ⲁⲣⲁⲃⲓⲕⲟⲛ, cf. P. Ryl. Copt. 109 (KYP M328, T92) l. 4: ⲕ̅ⲟ̅ⲩ̅ϣ̅ ⲁⲣⲁ.
8. ⲏⲙⲉ⧹ⲉ⧸ⲣⲉ ⲏ ϣ̅ⲁ ⲣ̅ⲟ̅ⲩ̅ϩ̅ⲉ ⲛⲅ P. Mich. inv. 602 (KYP M18, T7014) l. 37 has ⲏⲙⲉⲣ̣ⲉ ⲅ ⲣⲟⲩϩⲉ ⲅ̣ “Three days, three evenings”, followed by ⲛⲧⲃⲉ marking the beginning of the next text. The scribe here has made changes, inverting ⲅ ⲛⲧⲃⲉ to ⲛⲅ ⲧ̅ⲃ̅ⲉ (l. 9), changing the ⲅ to ⲏ after ⲏⲙⲉⲣⲉ, and adding ϣ̅ⲁ before ⲣ̅ⲟ̅ⲩ̅ϩ̅ⲉ, so we end up with a different meaning: “Seven days until evening, three ⟨times⟩ (?)”. Some of these changes might be copying errors (ⲅ ⲛⲧⲃⲉ to ⲛⲅ ⲧ̅ⲃ̅ⲉ), but others seem deliberate. Perhaps the scribe wanted to clarify the instructions from the original manuscript, as he appears to have done in other texts (cf. P. Mich. inv. 599 vo l. 12 (T673)). This phrase indicates that something should be done three times every day until the evening, and that for seven days, but it is unclear whether it refers only to the offering of costus, or to the entire ritual, including recitation of the invocation, for which cf. PCM I 28 (KYP M148, T15) p. 12 ll. 20-21: ⲅ ⲉⲛϩⲁⲟⲩ · ⲍ ⲛⲉⲩⲭⲏ ⲉⲙⲏⲛⲉ “Three days, seven prayers daily”.
